How to Add the Missing Underline and Justify Buttons in WordPress Post Editor

In WordPress 4.7, the core developer team decided to make various changes in the editor (TinyMCE WYSIWYG), including removing the underline and justify buttons and rearranging some of the toolbar buttons. If you like the way you edit your content and/or don’t want to confuse your customers with a new contribution interface, there is a sample method will set your WordPress post editor back to its previous state (like in WordPress 4.6 and above versions).

Re-Adding the Underline & Justify Text Buttons in WordPress

A simple way to do that is by installing a free lightweight plugin named “Re-add text underline and justify“, This tiny plugin will re-add the post editor’s (text underline, text justify buttons) and rearrange them in the WYSIWYG as they were before WordPress 4.7.

#1 Log in to your WordPress admin panel.

#2 From the Plugins menu, click Add New.

#3 In the Search field, type Re-add text underline and justify, and then click Search Plugins.

#4 Under the Re-add text underline and justify plugin, click Install Now, and then click activate.

#5 Once the plugin activated, go to  Settings Menu » Writing page to configure the plugin settings:

The plugin comes with 4 options to choose from.

  • Default – without underline & justify buttons
  • Re-add underline & justify buttons
  • Re-add underline & justify + rearrange
  • Re-add justify only

#6 choose the settings that fit your needs and don’t forget to click on the save changes button.

Now, You can check the result by starting a new post, Go to Posts » Add New page, You will find underline and justify text buttons added back to the WordPress post editor. That’s all!
